We’ve already looked at all the ingenious uses for bungee cords, but there’s even more you can do with them, like making a handy bungee cord keychain.

So with that, let’s get to it.

How to make a bungee cord keychain

What you will need:

• A bungee cord
• Hook clasp
• Keyring
• Scissors
• Lighter
• Super glue
• Some keys to add to it!

1. Measure three to four feet of bungee cord

Grab your preferred colour of 2mm bungee cord (or opt for wider diameters here) and measure out around three to four feet, and cut the length using scissors.  

2. Melt the ends and cover with super glue

Using a lighter, light a flame at one end of the cord to melt it for just a few seconds. Use some super glue to add just a few drops to the end and let it set for a few minutes. Do the same for the other end.

3. Find the centre of the bungee cord

Fold your bungee cord in half to find the centre and to create a loop. Grab your keyring or hook clasp, and pass the centre of the cord through it.

4. Feed the ends through the loop

Once the keyring or hook clasp is a few centimetres down from the bended cord, feed the folded ends through the cord loop. 

5. Pull the cord to keep it snug

Then, pull the cord through until it’s snug and tight to the keyring or hook clasp. 

6. Measure the width of your hand

From the keyring or hook clasp, measure the cord down about five inches or the width of your hand.

7. Flip over and cross right cord over both

Flip over the cord whilst keeping hold of the place on the cord that you’ve measured against the width of your hand. You will then have the two pieces of cord split. Separate them and cross the right cord over both.

8. Take the left cord and cross it over the right cord only

Once you’ve crossed the right cord over both cords, then take the left cord and cross it over the right cord only, just below the left cord. You should form two hoops by doing so. 

9. Pass the left cord underneath and through the right loop

Then, simply feed the left cord that’s underneath the right cord loop through the right cord loop and snug up tight. 

10. Cross the left cord over both cords

Next, cross the left cord over both cords underneath. 

11. Take right cord and cross over left cord only

From there, take the right cord and cross it over the left cord only that’s underneath it.

12. Pass the right cord underneath and up through the left loop

As you cross the right cord underneath the left cord, pass it behind both the central cords and then through the left loop. 

13. Pull both the left and right cords to tighten

Then, pull both of the cords – the left and right – to tighten up the middle part. 

14. Pull every knot tight as you go

Make sure to pull every knot down to tighten as you go.

15. Pull the cords to the side too

Don’t forget to pull both the left and right cords to the side also to keep tightening. 

16. Repeat down the keychain

Simply keep repeating this down the length of the keychain, tightening both cords as you go. 

17. Trim ends close to keychain

Then, once you have knotted all the way down to the keyring, grab the scissors, and trim the ends close to the keychain.

18. Melt the ends and protect with super glue

Get the lighter, and melt those ends for a few seconds, and protect the ends with a small coat of super glue. 

19. Attach your keys

Finally, attach your keys to the keyring, and voila, you have made your very own bungee keychain! You can then add a hook clasp to the keyring to attach to a belt or to hang up. Or, if you used a hook clasp at the start, thread a keyring at the other end of the bungee cord keychain. Then, attach the clasp to your belt and have keys at the end of the bungee keychain be easily accessible.
