Types of bungee cord accessories

Bungee accessories are the bread and butter of effective bungee use, and should be part of your essential DIY toolkit and camping checklist. Whilst cords and tapes have a whole host of uses and applications on their own, applying an accessory to them can increase these uses tenfold – and make attaching them even easier!

Rings and clamps

Shock cord steel rings 

Available in 6mm, 8mm and 10mm, shock cord steel rings are the go-to for bungee cord and general rope crimping. These steel and zinc-coated rings are the ideal accessory for creating permanent loops, securing a knot or attaching hooks and other accessories to your bungee cord.

To crimp the steel rings, we suggest using ring pincers to ensure a tight clasp around your cord. These rings are ideal if you’re looking to keep your bungee cord permanently looped, to secure a knot or to attach a hook.

Shock cord clamp

With a similar application to steel rings, shock cord clamps are another handy accessory for crimping your bungee cords. Suitable for 4-6mm bungee cords, these clamps are usually used when securing a bungee cord to a hook,  however, can be used for other crimped purposes, such as creating loops and securing knots.

We recommend using knipex alligator pliers to secure the shock cord clamps, to tightly secure the clamp to the cord.

Steel hog rings

Like shock cord clamps, steel hog rings are also used for crimping bungee cords and rope. Available in small, medium and large, to suit a wide variety of cord sizes, stainless steel hog rings are the ideal accessory for creating loops, securing knots and attaching hooks. 

Hog ring pliers are the perfect tool to secure your steel hog rings to your bungee cord.

Bungee hooks

Spiral bungee hooks

Made from stainless steel and finished in a black plastic coating, spiral bungee hooks have a variety of uses. Choose from 6mm, 8mm and 10mm sizes to apply to your bungee cord, these hooks are perfect for creating custom length luggage elastics for tying to roof racks, along with other handy bungee DIY crafts around the home. 

Make sure you secure these to your bungee cord properly with steel rings; this ensures that the hook is held in place and doesn’t slide off.

Auto locking bungee hooks

Possibly one of the easiest bungee accessories to use, and keep in your bag when you’re out and about with your cord, is the auto locking bungee hook. These hooks are great for those times when you need to quickly attach a hook to your bungee cord, but don’t have rings and pliers on hand. Auto-locking hooks are the perfect accessory to keep in your camping festival gear for DIY hammocks and tent securing. No tools are needed. To attach simply just slide your cord into the end of the hook and you’re good to go.

Plastic easy fix hooks 

Plastic easy fix hooks are similar to auto locking hooks, in that they don’t require any tools to attach to your bungee cord. Suitable for 8-10mm cord, plastic easy fix hooks are the ideal solution for baby proofing with bungees, storing garden tools or creating other quick bungee cord DIYs – complete with a security lock.

Plastic bungee hooks 

Made from extra strong, ultra resistant plastic, these plastic bungee hooks are useful for all sorts of applications and activities. From securing loas with bungee cords to securing bungee trampoline, plastic bungee hooks are the perfect accessory for all your 8mm bungee cord needs. 

Plastic bungee hooks work much like any other hook, but in order to attach the bungee cord to these you will need to crimp on hog rings and with some pliers. The crimped hog rings will secure the plastic hook onto your bungee cord – removing any worry of it falling off.

Flat bungee cord hooks 

The perfect one-size-fits-all hook, flat bungee cord hooks are the perfect accessory for 11, 16 and 22mm bungee tape. Made with double wire hooks for added strength and plastic coating for durability, flat bungee cord hooks can take up to 50kg, and help you find new and inventive uses for your bungee tape – a flat, durable alternative to traditional cord. 

Attach your flat hooks to your bungee tape with steel rings and pincers, for a secure crimp and connection to keep you and your belongings safe.
