Types of bungee cord accessories
When you’re starting your bungee cord collection, gathering a few helpful accessories will not only increase what you can do with your bungee cords, but it will also make attaching them easier.
We’ve put together an extensive list of some must-have bungee accessories and how to use them, including:
1. Shock cord steel rings

Ranging from 6mm to 10mm, shock cord steel rings are the go–to for bungee cord crimping.
Cord crimping with shock steel cord rings is often needed to keep the bungee cord permanently looped, to secure a bungee knot, to prevent the ends from fraying, or to attach other accessories – such as hooks and fasteners.
To crimp the steel rings, we suggest using ring pincers to ensure a tight clasp around your cord and to ensure they’re securely attached.
2. Shock cord clamps
With a similar application to steel rings, shock cord clamps are another handy accessory for crimping your bungee cords.
From 4 to 6mm cord clamps to 8 to 10mm cord clamps, these bungee cord accessories are usually used when securing a bungee cord to a hook – where the cord threads through the hook back on itself, where it can then be clamped.
We recommend using alligator pliers to secure the shock cord clamps over ring pincers, as they provide a wider area to grip the clamp.
3. Steel hog rings

Steel hog rings are yet another handy bungee cord accessory for crimping your bungee cords.
Similar in look, application and use to shock cord clamps, hog rings are available in 3 sizes – small (4-5mm), medium (6-7mm) and large (8-10mm) – and require a hog ring plier to attach them securely onto the bungee cord.
4. Spiral bungee hooks

There are so many things you can do with bungee cords with hooks, and made from stainless steel and finished in a black plastic coating, these spiral bungee hooks have a variety of uses of their own!
With a wide range of sizes to choose from, including 6mm spiral hooks, 8mm spiral hooks and 10mm spiral hooks, these hooks are perfect for creating custom length luggage elastics for tying things down to your roof rack – with a hook either end of your bungee cord.
Make sure you secure these to your bungee cord properly with steel rings and ring pincers, as this ensures that the hook is held securely in place and doesn’t risk sliding off when in use.
5. Auto locking bungee hooks
Possibly one of the easiest bungee accessories to use, and keep in your camping bag essentials when you’re out and about, is the auto locking bungee hook.
Made with ultra-resistant moulded nylon, these 6-8mm high-strength and heavy-duty hooks are great for those times when you need to quickly attach a hook to your bungee cord – all with a security lock fitted, ensuring your cord isn’t going anywhere. Perfect for making a DIY hammock in the woods or to take to a camping festival!
No tools needed, just simply slide your cord into the end of the hook and you’re good to go!
6. Plastic easy fix hooks

A similar accessory to the auto locking bungee hook are plastic easy fix hooks.
Designed to be installed quickly and easily, these 8-10mm hooks are made with strong black nylon plastic. Complete with security locks, these hooks are ideal for if you’re in the wild and need to use some bungee cord survival hacks, or just to keep in your tool kit at home.
Like above, plastic easy fix hooks can be easily installed without the need for any tools – simply feed the cord round the back of the hook and close the gate.
7. Plastic bungee hooks

Plastic bungee hooks, available in an 8mm size, work much like any other hook and are ideal for any of your bungee needs.
Made from extra-strong, ultra-resistant plastic moulding, these hooks are useful for all sorts of applications and activities – even tasks as simple as organising your garden tools. However, they do require tools to attach them onto your bungee cord.
In order to attach the bungee cord to these hooks, you will need hog rings and a pair of hog ring pliers. The crimped hog rings will secure the plastic hook onto your bungee cord.
8. Flat bungee cord hooks

More ideal for use with bungee tape, rather than bungee cord, flat bungee cord hooks are one of the latest bungee accessories to our collection.
You may also know this assembly as bungee straps, ideal for using bungee cords on a motorcycle or securing cargo on a long road trip.
One size of hook is expertly designed to be suitable to fit bungee tape between 11 and 22mm. The metal double wire hook is ultra strong, with additional plastic coating for extra durability – all whilst being designed with a rounded hook to minimise damage when used.
These hooks are super easy to attach; simply thread the bungee tape through the bottom loop and secure it with steel rings and ring pincers, for a secure grip that won’t cause the tape to slip or come loose.
