Tired of lazing around and being a couch potato? Turn your home into the perfect gym by getting into a fun bungee cord workout routine. Where to start? By simply grabbing some bungee cords!
Setting up your home gym
All you need is a bit of space and strong, sturdy poles or anchors to make bungee cord resistance training work at home. If you like, lay down exercise mats to cushion the floor. As long as the floor is level, you’re good to go!
Bungee cord resistance training you can do at home
For these exercises, you’ll just need four bungee cords (some only need two to work).
Squat to press
Start by hooking together two bungee cords
Hold both ends of the joined bungee cords whilst standing on the centre of the joined cords with feet shoulder width apart
Stretch both sides of the joined cords to just above your shoulders, and behind your back with your biceps and arms raised up
Then squat down
From the squat, return to the starting position and then raise both arms above your head and stretch out the bungee cords
Repeat 10 times
Lunge to a chest press
Attach two bungee cords to the bottom of a strong anchor or pole, one on either side
Connect one bungee cord to each of the anchored cords so you make each one longer
Walk a few feet back to give them a good stretch and face the other way
Hold each cord with one hand and line them over your triceps against your elbows, bending your elbows and forearms forward
From there, lunge forward on one foot, whilst stretching both arms out in front of you for both hands to meet, as you lunge down
6. Return to the starting position and lunge down again on the other foot, again, stretching the arms out in front of you 7. Repeat 10 times
Rows in squat formation
Attach two bungee cords to the bottom of a pole or anchor; one on either side
Grab both ends of the cords with your hands
Walk back a few steps to give them enough stretch with your arms and cords in a diagonal line position
Stand with feet shoulder width apart, keeping your arms and cords in that diagonal line
From there, squat down, bending at the knees with your arms and cords dropping down in the same diagonal position
Hold that position and then begin the rows with one arm pulling one cord back and to your abdomen
Return your arm to the starting position and pull back the other arm
Repeat each arm stretch whilst still in the squat position and do 10 pulls altogether, alternating between both arms
Tricep kickbacks
Have two bungee cords attached to a pole or anchor at the bottom with one on either side
Walk a few places back, holding each ends of the cords and stretching them out diagonally
Stand with feet shoulder width apart
Keep elbows bent slightly with both cords in a diagonal line and bend your body downwards at the hip
Pull both cords to your abdomen with your elbows still bent
Then, stretch out both forearms at the same time, making sure your arms are straight
Return your forearms to the starting position
Repeat 10 times, still keeping in the bent-at-the-hip position throughout
Curl
Attach two bungee cords to the bottom of a pole or anchor; one on either side
Take a few steps back, holding each cord in one hand to hold them diagonally, with arms stretched out diagonally
Stand with feet shoulder width apart
Begin the curl by raising both arms to bend the elbows, lifting both the cords to your head, whilst keeping your body straight
Lower your arms back down to the starting position
Lift them again, repeating 10 times
Flye
Attach two bungee cords to the bottom of a pole or anchor, one on either side
Take a couple of steps back and stand with feet shoulder width apart
Hold each cord with one hand in front of you
Pull both cords up and out at the same time, stretching both arms out to the side, in line with the shoulders
Lower both arms down halfway to the hip
Raise both arms up and out again, repeating 10 times
And there you have a simple workout from just four bungee cords! For beginners, do two to four rounds. For an intermediate level, do three to five rounds. And for an advanced level, do five to ten rounds.
