Bungee straps and cords are elasticised equipment that can be fitted with metal hooks on each end, which allow you to fasten all kinds of things securely.
At The Bungee Store, both Lastoflex and Superflex bungee tape and cords can be fastened with our bungee hooks and other accessories, to give them a variety of helpful uses. Similar to our tips for using bungee cords with clips, cords with hooks can be used for a range of things, from crafts to DIY projects. You’ll be amazed just how many uses hooked bungee cords have.
All it involves is some creative thinking! Read on to find out how you can use bungee cords with hooks around the home or with your latest DIY project.
1. Wrapping gifts
No sellotape? Use bungee cords with hooks to hold wrapping paper in place securely. Simply hook the cords around the gift and gently tighten to keep the paper taut and wrinkle-free as you wrap. This is great if you struggle with using tape to secure your wrapping paper – which can be troublesome to undo.
2. Bundle wires and cables neatly
Has your cable management gone awry? Hooked bungee cords are great for organising cables and wires. Wrap cords together and hook the bungee around them to keep them neatly bundled. This works well for computer cables, phone chargers, Christmas lights and more. The elastic cord allows you to easily add and remove cables as needed. Plus, you can use them to organise bungee cords that aren’t being used!
3 Hanging decor
Use bungee cords with hooks to hang lightweight decorations on walls without making holes. For example, hook a stuffed garland or string of lights to two command strip hooks on the wall. You’d be surprised just how much our bungee cords can hold, but be sure not to overload so as to not damage the nail or command hook on the walls.
4. Jewellery making
Bungee cords make perfect tools for stringing beads to create homemade jewellery. Their stretchy elasticity holds beads securely in place as you work, and need only be fastened with the hooks on each end.
Simply cut a bungee cord to your desired jewellery length and attach the hook to one end. Then string your beads onto the bungee cord to make a stretchy bracelet, necklace, or anklet. The elasticity allows the jewellery to stretch over hands and feet comfortably. Finish off your wearable piece by adding the hook to the other end.
5. Customising your rucksack
Turn your existing rucksack into a practical one you can use for hiking, camping or simply commuting to work. Simply use some hooked bungee cord (such as our bungee assemblies for a quick fix) to hook one end of the bag (such as on the sides) to the other, and place things like water bottles or other accessories on them. This is great for additional storage without having to buy an entirely new rucksack. Nothing to hook your bungee to? No problem. Get crafty and sew on some elastic or belt loops so you can hook your bungee cord with ease.
6. Create a bungee cord sculpture
This one is for the artists within – use bungee cords with hooks to create unique sculptures.
Stretch cords between supports to form geometric or abstract shapes. Use multiple colours for added interest, or stick with the same tones for a monochromatic look. Experiment with twisting, knotting, and looping them into organic shapes. The possibilities for bungee cord art are endless!
7. Make a DIY mouse bungee
DIY mouse bungees are perfect for gamers who are looking for a hassle-free way to keep their set-up organised – particularly if they’re still using a wired mouse.
To create a DIY mouse bungee, you’ll need one of our strong bungee cords, combined with a hefty base to anchor it (like a heavy paperweight or a small block of wood), some tape or glue, and potentially a clip to hold the mouse cord. First, securely attach one end of the bungee cord to your base using tape or glue, ensuring it won’t move during use. Next, lead the mouse cord through the other end of the bungee cord. If needed, use one of our bungee hooks, clips or a piece of tape to keep the mouse cord attached to the bungee, allowing enough slack for comfortable movement. The bungee cord should provide upward tension to prevent the mouse cord from dragging on surfaces or getting caught on desk items, enhancing your overall mousing experience with smoother movements.
8. Hang garden tools
With hooks secured to the walls of your shed, you can hang things like your rakes, hoes, brooms, shovels and other tools you use for gardening. Ensure you use multiple bungee cords for heavier equipment, or reinforce them with our cargo control straps to take some of the weight off and keep them organised.
9. Shelving
If you want to keep items secure on an existing shelf, you can use bungee cords with hooks to make that happen. Simply have two anchors – one on either side – of your shelf (such as screws or holes), and hook your bungee cord between them to keep shelved items in place. This is great if you have a particularly stacked shelf with fragile items that need to be secured.
10. Create pet toys
Bungee cords with hooks make it easy to create fun homemade cat and dog toys. Simply tie some cord around a small stuffed mouse or ball to create a toy your pet can bat around and chase. The bungee cord allows the toy to bounce in unpredictable ways, which animals love.
11. Secure pet bowls and accessories whilst travelling
You can also use bungee cords to secure pet bowls and accessories whilst travelling. Hook them to create cargo nets to hold food and water bowls in place in the car. Or use them to attach a pet carrier to luggage so you don’t have to carry both separately. Bungee cords can also work well for securing a dog leash for a small pet to your belt loop. Their flexibility and stretch allow freedom of movement while keeping items attached.
12. Hang items in your car
Ensuring they don’t obstruct your view, you can hang storage pouches, sunglasses cases, and small bags from headrest poles, grab handles and hooks. Hook the bungee cord around them to suspend lightweight accessories within easy reach of the driver and passengers.
13. Make a DIY hammock
To create a DIY bungee cord hammock with hooked bungee cords, start by determining the size it needs to be to fit comfortably between two anchor points, such as trees, ensuring there’s enough length for slack. Cut two long, durable, and breathable fabric pieces to the desired length and width for comfort. Place these pieces atop each other, with the desired sides facing inward, and sew along the long edges to join them, reinforcing the seam for durability (we’d recommend using a sewing machine for added support). Attach bungee cords along the lengths by sewing fabric loops around them, and then affix the hooks to the bungee ends for easy attachment to anchor points, so you can enjoy your DIY relaxation spot.
